U.S. Presidential Debate #1

Being a close follower of the political situation in the U.S. today, Wednesday’s national debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney held no surprises to me.

The issues remain the same, and many of the responses remained the same.  However,  knowing that the President can be assertive if necessary, it seemed as though he wanted to conduct a respectable debate… deliberately holding back the dirt and mud-slinging.  It was as if he believed that he’d be perceived as taking advantage of Romney, or being mean-spirited, knowing that everything from his facial expression to his bodily movements could be taken as his being non-presidential.

Mitt has nothing to lose (except the many supporters who readily admit that he is their candidate, not by choice, but simply because they have no other Republican or Conservative choice).  He’s not the president!  He doesn’t have Obama’s issues to deal with.  Therefore, he cannot lose what he has never had.  He’s simply the guy who wants Obama’s job bad enough to lean in any direction on any issue that he deems a contribution to his cause, to acquire this position.  This is the very reason for his unofficial title of “Flip-Flopper”.

Also many of his responses were totally inaccurate… to put it nicely.  One example, when they discussed the “Economy” issue, he touted that the economy is consistently worse each year than the previous year, and that it is definitely worse than it was four years ago.   However, although finding it difficult to admit, even the members of his own party (not to mention all of the economic analyzers are aware that the economy is far better than four years ago and constantly improving.  This is a documented fact!

The improvement is not yet at the level we’d like, but it is a definite and consistent improvement from the very first year of Obama’s presidency.  In fact, since he assumed office, he’s done much for the economy, some of which he stated at the debate.  Remember, he turned the recession into a recovery in less than six months!  (Inaugurated on January 20, 2009, and the recession was officially over in June, 2009).  Not much math to do there — it’s a no-brainer!  The economy has been growing ever since.

For those who have doubts, check the Dow Jones Index in 2008, around the period when Obama was elected.  In fact, during the same month of his election, November 20, 2008,  the Dow Jones Index closed at 7,552.29, and he would not even be inaugurated for another two months.  Today (in 2012), the Dow has been deviating around the 13,500 mark and higher.  The lowest close, year-to-date, has been 12,101… even that is a far cry from 7,552.29!

The most interesting fact yet, is that the all-time high ever, is $14,164… within a few hundred points we’re very close to that figure.  Also it has recently been reported that the Dow has doubled since 2009 (the year that Obama first took office).  Therefore, “no economic growth” is a bogus farce.  Obama has definitely and consistently improved the economy, as well as other issues which I may mention in the future.

Romney has reportedly been training for these debates for weeks (not to mention all of his training during his previous run for the presidency).  Meanwhile, while the president has been handling the country’s business, also attempting to campaign.  However, Obama  stood firmly, pointing out many of his accomplishments as well as laying out his plan for the next four years, while Romney, as many times as he’s been asked, remained very general in his attempts to conveniently maneuver around his plans for the next four years, even stammering at one point.  Of course, he quickly and frequently changed the subject, when the issue dealt with his short-comings.

By the way, am I the only one who actually heard Romney’s statement, something to the effect of, I’ll let you care for your poor the way you see fit.  Your poor???  Well, in my opinion, that confirms that 47% statement in the video in which he stated that he wasn’t worried about the 47%, because they seek entitlements and they’re not going to vote for him anyway.  Of course, when confronted about that statement, he said that he cares for 100% of Americans… very contradictory to what he said on the hot mike of a hidden camera.  Any president who is not concerned with approximately half the country’s population is no president that I would ever even consider of voting for!

It is times such as these that I am thankful that I was inspired to write “Legacy of the Tall, Black & White Donkey of the White House:  OBAMA”, which will be published and online very shortly (during this election period).  It lays out many of his accomplishments and is very well-researched with references and of course my views throughout.   Check for it often here at blackandwhitelegacy.com or sharelifepublishing.com.

I welcome all comments on any chosen issue of discussion.

Thank you and God bless!
